Random Thought Of The Day: Originality?

Isn't it sort of funny how people, especially teenagers, always seem to feel the need to "fit in"? So many people seem to think they have to act or dress in a certain way. Heh, explains why almost everybody gets stuck going through braces at some point or another in life... Thank you Hollywood for advertising flawlessly strait, white smiles and making the rest of us feel like we must pay thousands of dollars to fix our teeth. Or perfect bodies that cause so many people to stop and stare at themselves in the mirror and think "I'm fat" weather they are or not.

Life is like a whole big game of "Simon Says" or "Follow The Leader", when ya think about it. It's like those games that we all played when we were little kids... follow what the popular people dictate is "cool" and you risk being "out" if you don't. And why is it always the popular people? Yeah, I guess they just get more advertising. Or they have more friends so everybody else thinks if they're like them they can have more friends and rank higher on the social scale too. But really, how many times do people just copy off the style of some random person on the street? Lol, not many, I would imagine.

Even I've done it... that whole trying to fit in thing. Back when I was a little 11 year old Jr.Girl Scout, in the back of my mind I always felt a little out of it sometimes. Not that anybody ever made fun of me there or anything, but none the less, I wanted to feel like I fit in with the rest of them so I started off on the chameleon act and dressed like the rest of them. I can't believe it took me 'till I was 15 to realize that it was so much more fun to just be ME!

So that is exactly what I did, and still am. Ya know what I've found? It doesn't make you any less liked than if you were playing the chameleon. Sometimes even more so!

So many people think they have to hide who they are... But hello? If we were meant to be the same God woulda used an identical cookie-cutter mold on us all.
